HOSPITALS in Scotland are preparing themselves for potential problems this week as thousands of junior doctors change jobs across the UK. The British Medical Association (BMA) in Scotland said the new recruitment system was "chaotic", with many juniors still not knowing where they were supposed to turn up to on Wednesday. It is understood hospitals have made plans to deal with the fact that not all juniors will be in their new jobs in time. In some cases, this includes cancelling leave for senior doctors and non-urgent appointments being delayed. It follows a difficult few months for junior doctors, who change jobs on 1 August under the new training system. Recruitment was delayed by problems with the online application service and claims the whole process was flawed. This means many doctors do not know if they have a training job or which hospital they should report to on Wednesday. Original article here |
