Sir John Tooke today published his intermin report entitled 'Aspiring to Excellence'. The 190 page document is a result of the work of the independent inquiry team established by the previous secretary of state.
The document outlines the distress suffered by doctors and vows that this 'must never be repeated'. Concerns are expressed about the negative impact on training and the 'tick box' culture of current competance assessments. |

Sir John Tooke, who is due to release his report tomorrow (Moday 8th October), has released some details inhis interview with the Observer.
Sir John Tooked describes Modernising Medical Careers as a "whole systems failure" which was "complex... ruahed in its implementation.. and resulted in some really good candidates not getting interviews".

The JRCPTB, formerly JCHMT, have agreed to review their fee structure after imposing a 25% increase in fees on training grade doctors, and a 150% increase for LATs (which is now also applicable to FTSTAs). In addition, entrants at ST3 are currently required to pay the same one off fee as ST1 trainees (£875), despite receiving 2 year’s less training.
