I was one of the lucky group during the initial MTAS to gain a run-through post in my specialty. However I realise the MTAS was a lottery and most of my friends have become involuntary members of the new "lost tribe" MMC was supposedly preventing. I had to move from Scotland to Cardiff and my girlfriend and friends were dispersed across the country in FTSTA posts.Even if one has a training number it does not make you immune to training inadequacies. Myself and another StR pushed for a deanery review of neurosurgery in Wales due to the poor guidance from our Programme Director. He has since resigned and we have been assured the situation will improve. There will be a further review in March.I regularly complain about the standard of training for surgeons and the attitude of the NHS towards its junior doctors. My family have encouraged me to get involved rather than moaning. I would Like to help Remedy Uk as you see fit. I am afraid I am a weak orator and a poor writer as you can see. However I would like to offer my help even if only distributing your magazine.I certainly welcome the Royal College of Surgeons announcement against the European Work Time Directive. However I cannot see it from being prevented at the moment for August 2009. This will open junior doctors to abuse by their Trusts with the shortages in staff. I would like to be in a position to offer advice to doctors in my hospital when this happens.
